On September 25,2026, Chinese Ambassador to Australia Liu Jinsong visited the National Museum of Australia (NMA) and met with its Director, Ms. Katherine McMahon. Minister Counselor Gao Wei accompanied Ambassador Liu during the visit, and the two sides engaged in a warm and friendly conversation. Director McMahon introduced the history and current development of the NMA and spoke highly of its long-term cooperative relationship with China, highlighting positive achievements in joint exhibitions, exchange visits between museum directors, academic exchanges, and mutual learning in digitalization with the National Museum of China.

Ambassador Liu extended Mid-Autumn Festival greetings to Director McMahon, stating that Chinese history and fine traditional culture are vast and profound, while modern Chinese culture is open and inclusive. Chinese competent authorities and relevant institutions are eager to continue deepening exchanges with Australian cultural and museum organizations, as well as exploring more creative forms of engagement. Starting this December, China and Australia will jointly host the exhibition "Terracotta Warriors: Immortality & Empire" at the National Museum of Australia in Canberra and then the Queensland Museum in Brisbane. This is not only a major collaborative event for both countries' cultural institutions but also a significant milestone in bilateral cultural exchange. The Chinese Embassy and Consulates in Australia are ready to work closely with cultural institutions of both nations to ensure a successful exhibition, organize diverse promotional and public benefit activities, and join hands to create a signature project in China-Australia cultural and museum cooperation.
Upon taking up his new post, Ambassador Liu made a special visit to the NMA and toured the "Great Southern Land" exhibition as well as "The Antarctic" special exhibition, demonstrating his keen enthusiasm for promoting cultural exchanges between China and Australia.
