On 25 August 2026, Chinese Ambassador-Designate to Australia Liu Jinsong presented a copy of his credentials to Ms Elly Lawson, Deputy Secretary of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). The two sides had a cordial and friendly exchange. Before that, Mr Jonathan Muir, DFAT Chief of Protocol had a brief meeting with Ambassador-Designate Liu.

Deputy Secretary Lawson warmly welcomed Ambassador-Designate Liu to take up his new post in Australia. Ambassador-Designate Liu appreciated the Australian side for facilitating his taking up the new post in Australia.
