On August 1st, Ambassador Xiao Qian met with the Hon Senator Michaelia Cash, Australian Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs, in the Federal Parliament House. They exchanged views on China-Australia relations and the party-to-party relations between the two countries.

Ambassador Xiao stated that in the past 53 years since the establishment of the diplomatic relations between China and Australia, the exchanges and cooperation in different areas between the two countries have been fruitful and beneficial to both countries and their people. Many important achievements in bilateral relations were made during the Coalition governments. China appreciates that and is willing to continue communicating and cooperating with the Coalition to jointly contribute to a more mature, stable, and productive China-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Senator Cash stated that the relations in trade, cultural, education and other areas between Australia and China are close and of great importance to both peoples. The Coalition would like to communicate in a frank and friendly manner with the Chinese side based on mutual respect so as to promote the development of bilateral relations.
