On March 26, 2025, Chinese Minister of Science and Technology (MOST) Mr Yin Hejun met with visiting Professor Barry J. Marshall from the University of Western Australia and his delegation in Beijing. Professor Marshall is the Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine, Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science, Foreign Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and winner of the Chinese Government Friendship Award and the China International Science and Technology Cooperation Award.
Minister Yin said that President Xi Jinping attaches great importance to the development of China-Australia relations. During a meeting with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in November 2024, President Xi said China will work with Australia to develop a more mature, stable and fruitful China-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Over the past 40 years since the signing of the China-Australia Science and Technology Cooperation Agreement, the cooperation in the field of science and technology between the two countries has produced remarkable results. MOST supports scientists from the two countries in carrying out mutually beneficial cooperation in a wider range and at a deeper level. He expressed his hope that Professor Marshall will continue to engage with Chinese research institutions, further promoting China-Australia scientific and technological cooperation and solving major scientific problems in the field of health.
Professor Marshall introduced his team’s extensive cooperation with the Chinese counterparts in the field of Helicobacter Pylori, and expressed his willingness to work with outstanding research institutions and researchers in China to promote medical progress and respond to global health challenges.
