H.E. Ambassador Cheng Jingye visits Victoria

At the invitation of the Victorian Government, Ambassador Cheng Jingye visited Victoria from the 22nd to the 24th of November. During his visit, Ambassador Cheng met with the Hon. Governor Linda Dessau, the Hon. Premier Daniel Andrews, the Hon. Bruce Atkinson, President of the Legislative Council, the Hon. Telmo Languiller, Speaker of Legislative Assembly, and the Hon. Matthew Guy, the Leader of the Opposition Liberal Party.


Ambassador Cheng Jingye attended the first anniversary dinner of the China-Australia Free Trade Agreement, jointly held by the China Chamber of Commerce Australia (Melbourne) and the Australia China Business Council (Victoria), and delivered a speech. He also attended the welcoming dinner held by the overseas Chinese community of Victoria. In addition, Ambassador Cheng had a discussion with some representatives from the Australian and Chinese business communities. He also visited the headquarters of Swisse and the Victoria Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Consul General in Melbourne, Mr. Zhao Jian, accompanied Ambassador Cheng for all the activities.


On those events, Ambassador Cheng Jingye fully affirmed the significant progress achieved in the relations between China and Victoria in recent years and its contribution to the effective promotion of overall relations between the two countries. Ambassador Cheng spoke highly of the active efforts made by the wider community of Victoria to this end and positively commented on the current China – Australia relations. The two sides should adhere to the principle of mutual trust and mutual benefit, taking the opportunity of the comprehensive implementation of the China-Australia FTA and the building of the Belt and Road Initiative to tap the potential of pragmatic cooperation and to constantly advance exchanges in various fields, including local exchanges. China and Australia should expand common interests and deepen mutual understanding to further enrich the concept of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

Ambassador Cheng received a warm welcome in Victoria, which demonstrated that both the Victorian Government and the wider community attach great importance to its relations with China. Victoria welcomes investment from Chinese enterprises and is willing to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation in various fields with China, especially with sister provinces, including Jiangsu and Sichuan.
